Scott A. Gibbs

Music/ Art Director

Scott A. Gibbs, retired from the Beaufort County Department of Social Services, Assistant Artistic Director for Aunt Pearlie Sue & The Gullah Kinfolk, vocalist, musician and director. Scott is a native of Beaufort, South Carolina, where he currently lives. He is the son of the late Leroy, Phoebe and Rebecca Gibbs. He received his early education through the Beaufort County School System. He graduated from Beaufort High School in 1977. Scott earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from South Carolina State University in May of 1983.

 

Scott is a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he is the Church Treasurer and director/musician of the church choir. He is also the director/musician for the St. Paul Baptist Church Adult Choir.

 

Scott was employed by the Beaufort County Department of Social Services (DSS) for 33 years: 9 years as an Economic Services Specialist I, 19 years as a Benefits Integrity Claims Specialist and 5 more years in the TERI Program. While at DSS Scott served on several committees such as the State Claims Board (SCCOWF), the Agency’s Talent Show and several Retirement Committees, just to name a few.

 

Scott is a vocalist, musician, and director. He has directed several productions in the form of fashion shows, pageants, musicals, and plays. Scott directed the musicals, “Purlie” and “Rasin” for the Beaufort Little Theater.

 

Scott holds membership in the following organizations: Carae’s Lowcountry Modeling as President, Fellowship Concert Choir as Business manager, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Life Member #8415,South Carolina District Miss Black and Gold Pageant Coordinator, National Black and Gold Pageant Committee, The Original Gullah Festival of South Carolina, Inc., Entertainment Committee Chair, Aunt Pearlie Sue & Gullah Kinfolk as Assistant Artistic Director, Beaufort County Youth Conference as Co-Chairperson, Project Love Cotillion as Coordinator, The Beaufort Humanities Festival Committee, The Gullah Goes to Washington Committee, The Gullah Geechee Consortium and Election Poll Manager. Scott has won many honors and awards, including the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Xi Gamma Lamba Chapter’s Brother of the Year Award.

 

Scott’s philosophy of life is to “ALWAYS BELIEVE AND TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST, BECAUSE HE WILLALWAYS DIRECT YOUR PATH.” Proverbs 3:5-6
