Could Broadway Be Next For GTTI?

As fall gets underway, Gullah Traveling Theater, Inc. (GTTI) is busy making plans for future performances that continue our mission to advance and promote Gullah culture across the nation.

Last week, at the invitation of our dear friend Ellen Zisholtz—Founder, President, and CEO of the Center for Creative Partnerships, and formerly Director and Curator of South Carolina State University’s I.P. Stanback Museum & Planetarium—members of the GTTI leadership team traveled to New York City for a special visit to Broadway.

With Ellen’s guidance, we met with Eric Krebs, a distinguished Broadway and Off-Broadway producer whose remarkable career spans more than 50 years. Krebs founded and directed both the John Houseman Theater Center and the Douglas Fairbanks Theater for over two decades and now operates The

ater555, a 160-seat venue located at 555 West 42nd Street in New York City. He is currently producing Murdoch, The Final Interview—a one-man show exploring the life and legacy of media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

During our visit, Anita Singleton Prather (Executive and Creative Director) and Scott Gibbs (Deputy and Musical Director) shared clips from GTTI’s recent productions, sparking thoughtful discussion with Zisholtz and Krebs about the exciting possibility of a GTTI Off-Broadway debut.

So, what do you think? Could Broadway be the next stage for the Gullah Traveling Theater? Stay tuned—this story is just beginning!
