Join Gullah Traveling Theater, Inc. for the highly anticipated musical production, Circle Unbroken from Africa to America: Da’ Dreamers, presented as the featured theatrical attraction of the Robert Smalls Dinner Theater & Birthday Celebration, April 1–2, 2027 weekend in historic Beaufort, South Carolina.

From the nationally acclaimed Circle Unbroken from Africa to America series, this compelling musical production, written by Anita Singleton Prather (a.k.a. Aunt Pearlie Sue), brings together the extraordinary lives and legacies of two American heroes—Robert Smalls and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Born into slavery in Beaufort in 1839, Robert Smalls made history on May 13, 1862, when he commandeered the Confederate steamer Planter and sailed himself, his family, and others to freedom. His remarkable courage made him a Civil War hero and launched a lifetime of leadership and advocacy for freedom, equality, and opportunity.

A century later, another dreamer, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., would lead a movement that transformed America. During the 1960s, Dr. King found inspiration and refuge at Penn Center on nearby St. Helena Island, where he worked on some of his most important writings and speeches.

Through stirring music, captivating storytelling, and powerful performances, Da’ Dreamers connects the lives of these two visionaries, revealing how their dreams and destinies helped shape our nation's ongoing journey toward freedom and justice.

Come and be inspired by their courage, their dreams, and the enduring power of hope!
