Night Screening

My Man Done Me Wrong

Before there was Madea, there was My Man Done Me Wrong.

Join Gullah Traveling Theater, Inc.and the Beaufort County School District for a special screening of this beloved Gullah comedy classic written by and starring Anita Singleton Prather. Produced more than 20 years ago, My Man Done Me Wrong remains a hilarious and heartfelt celebration of Gullah storytelling, Southern Black culture, faith, family, and the strength of women determined to protect their dignity and their homes.

Filled with unforgettable characters, sharp humor, and rich cultural expression, the film follows five strong Gullah women as they navigate love, betrayal, friendship, and family drama in ways that will have audiences laughing out loud while recognizing the timeless truths woven throughout the story. Long before today’s mainstream Southern comedy franchises, this production helped pave the way for authentic Black Southern storytelling rooted in community and culture.

This special movie night is more than entertainment — it is an opportunity to celebrate and preserve authentic Gullah narratives through theater and film while gathering together for an evening of laughter, fellowship, and cultural pride.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Beaufort High School Girls’ Track Team and Performing Arts Department.
